Introducing Brussels FIRST Stepping Workshop Intensive complete with technique, and choreography workshops with American performer, teacher and choreographer Briana Ashley Stuart. Stepping, is an American form of body percussion that utilizes the body as an instrument to create intricate rhythms and sounds with ones’ hands, feet and voice. Steppers are both musicians and dancers with a strength and intensity that challenges the mind and body. And this opportunity isn’t available ANYWHERE else in Belgium.

Technique Workshop: 14h-16h
Choreography Workshop: 16h-18h

Cost:

Stepping Technique Workshop (2 hours) :
Provides students with comprehensive knowledge in stepping movement vocabulary, placement and execution. The workshop will teach the basics of stepping and how to properly execute each movement in a variety of patterns to ensure safe execution and movement within the body. This class will be essential for the stepping choreography class that follows.

Stepping Choreography & Performance Workshop (2 hours):
Provides students with the complete experience of creating step movements and combinations as well as being apart of a step team. This participants will perform specific exercises, activities and movement combinations. Strong emphasis will be placed on movement execution as a group and the cultural expression of stepping. Overall, the workshop will emphasize moving together, creating music together and the importance of commitment and discipline to a step team. This workshop completes the package for truly immersing students in the experience of being on a step team.

Workshops are open to all levels and students ages 15 and older.

**It is highly recommended to attend both workshops.**

Attire: Comfortable workout attire and a comfortable sport shoes (sneakers, gym shoes, etc)

Biography:
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Briana Ashley Stuart received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance and Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 2013. Briana has performed and taught, nationally and internationally as independent artist as well as with StepAfrika!, the worlds first dance company dedicated to the art form of stepping, and contemporary dance company SJEwing & Dancers at numerous colleges/universities, festivals, showcases, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base as well as many others. In 2015, she served as the assistant choreographer on the American Theater’s Company’s production of The Project(s) in Chicago, IL, rated 4 stars by the Chicago Tribune. Within the past year she has received numerous commissions from Dance Place’s New Releases Showcase, Dance Ethos Dance Company, Joy of Motion’s Youth Dance Ensemble, the University of Michigan, and the 2016 March on Washington Film Festival in Washington, D.C. Currently, she live in Brussels, Belgium where she founded an arts consultancy organization called STU Arts, that broad high quality arts-related services and consultancy. STU Arts focuses on performance, teaching, choreography and arts administration for Belgian independent dance artists, dance companies, and dance and cultural arts organizations. Briana’s direct links to the art form professionally and culturally provides students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the authentic culture, technique and choreography of Stepping. She is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, one of nine fraternities and sororities who specialize in the art form of stepping and she has also performed and taught nationally and internationally with StepAfrika!, the world’s first professional stepping company.
