Scotland's capital city is simultaneously less densely populated than Glasgow, and very compact. It has a developed an efficient transport network consisting of buses, trains and the relatively new tram network, but most of all Edinburgh is a city you can walk or bike in.

Edinburgh, the Scottish capital city, has a ton of captivating history and much to offer to expats. You can enjoy a range of leisure activities, starting from visits to the city's many historical buildings and museums to exploring lush green nature and joining in the fun of the many festivals taking place both in summer and in winter. Venturing a bit further out, there's cruising on the Leith River, fruit picking in farms, fishing, cycling, and so much more.

Combine that to the many rental options you have (from modern houses to Victorian homes to waterfront apartments) and it’s not hard to see why Scotland attracts so many expats each year.

As a dynamic capital city, Edinburgh attracts expats in large numbers every year. Despite being the second biggest and densely populated city in Scotland after Glasgow, it has a particularly attractive labour market, specialising in financial services. Combining breathtaking old world architecture with a modern vibe, Edinburgh is also rich in green spaces along pedestrian streets and paved paths. Accommodation is expensive though, which leads many people to flatsharing.
